what we do | selling sites to housing associations

Melness – Albyn Housing

The Trust sells sites on to Charitable Housing Associations who build well-designed, top quality homes on them, which are let to people from the community in housing need at affordable rents.

Houses belonging to Charitable Housing Associations cannot be bought by their tenants which means that the houses built become a long-term community asset available to meet successive generations of local housing needs.

Completions by Housing Associations

Many of the sites which are bought (landbanked) by the Trust are subsequently sold on (with the approval of the Community Council concerned) to Registered Housing Associations – particularly Albyn Housing Society which is much the biggest Housing Association operating in the Highlands.

In the last few years the Trust has sold on 18 sites to Albyn Housing Society in the following communities:

  • Applecross
  • Cromarty
  • Dores
  • Gairloch
  • Gorthleck
  • Inverarnie
  • Inverdruie
  • Kiltarlity (2)
  • Kinlochewe
  • Kishorn
  • Maryburgh
  • Poolewe
  • Scourie
  • Shieldaig (2)
  • Torridon (2)

In addition, the Trusts site-finding and site viability work in and with communities has helped pave the way for Albyn developments in Armadale, Kincraig, Melness and Glenmore. These 22 sites in total have already resulted, or will soon result, in the delivery of over 150 houses, predominantly for rent but including some shared equity "homesake" houses.
